There once was a Chitterbeetle who was famous throughout the entire forest for his remarkable songs. Everyone, everywhere knew that he was capable of astounding music. Yet, this Chitterbeetle repeatedly refused to put on a concert. No matter how many might ask. No matter how often they might ask. This Chitterbeetle consistently rejected the idea of a public display of his marvelous gifts.

The rest of the forest did not give up. They kept asking and asking and asking, until one day, the Chitterbeetle finally relented and agreed to put on one, just one concert for whoever might want to attend. The new spread like wildfire. Everyone from every corner of the forest raced to the Sunny Valley for this one of a kind concert.

When the moment finally came, the Chitterbeetle took the center stage and let loose one of the most awful songs any one had ever heard. Startled, everyone looked at each other and asked, “Is this some sort of joke?”

Then the second song came out and then the third; each song seriously worse than the one before it. During the fourth song, the audience couldn’t stand it anymore. They stood up and shouted, “What are you doing? Why do you sound so awful? What is this?”

“This,” the Chitterbeetle quietly replied, “is who I am. This is what I sound like, when I am up on a live stage in front of a enormous audience like you.”

Then the Chitterbeetle pulled out a little player and turned on a recording. The first sound was so soulful, that many in the audience began to cry. The second sound was so marvelously uplifting, that everyone felt like they were soaring on the Sun’s magnificent rays. The third song just simply overwhelmed them all into a somber silence. “What was that?” they asked.

“That”, the Chitterbeetle replied, “is also who I am. That is what I sound like, when I am in my little tree by myself. For whatever reason, ‘that’ is the only way I have found to bring out the very best in my music.”

As the audience pondered his response, the Chitterbeetled continued, ”You may want something different. I may even want something different. However, if I am to fully master my gift, I will have to accept who I am.”
